Aimee Raupp:

We're going to record.

Hello everyone. How are you? We are here with another story of hope. I am so excited for all of these stories and really just so honored. Thank you, Nicole, for coming here and sharing. I already feel emotional. It's just such an honor when any of my clients or any of the readers send in testimonials or anything. But it's kind of next level for me when one of my girls wants to go live and share their story on video and share with all of you.

And so this story… They're all really special. This has got a little twist at the end that you guys will all love, I think. So, I can't find all of Nicole's chart notes because back when we worked together in 2018, I did everything handwritten and then I did a story of hope on her. And I can't locate the chart notes, but that's okay. We've pieced it together and of course she remembers her story very well.

So, starting out, it was 2018 and Body Belief had come out, so you hadn't yet worked with me. I was doing these 15 minute consultations, I think. So, we did a free 15 minute consultation. You were trying to conceive at 39, right? Give us a little bit of that. Yeah.

Nicole:

Yeah. So, I had three children previously in my 20s to my first husband and then I met my now husband and he decided…

Aimee Raupp:

The love of her life. Yes.

Nicole:

And he decided that he would like another child. So, we went down the route of him having a vasectomy reversal for that to happen. And then I spoke to you, I think, as that was happening or you…

Aimee Raupp:

You were actively trying and there was some thyroid stuff going on. I remember when we had that 15 minute consult, some of my follow up was about looking at T3 and T4 and I think even Hashimoto's or there was autoimmunity going on. Am I right about that?

Nicole:

No, we didn't have any… No. No, Hashimoto's, but it was definitely underactive thyroid at play. So, we were getting that on that back on track. And that was the best thing to do was to follow the Body Belief diet. So, that's what I did.

Aimee Raupp:

So, at the time, Body Belief had just come out. We did our first ever, what's now called the fertility reboot, but back then it was called Reboot and Rewire and you did that. And so, it was the exact… It's the egg quality diet. The egg quality diets tweaked a bit to be very specific for macro nutrients for fertility. But you did the whole Body Belief elimination plan. The elimination diet, and re-added everything back in and to get yourself in the best shape for conceiving.

Nicole:

Yeah.

Aimee Raupp:

And so, then fast forward. You are trying to conceive. And so, I get this email from her. She's not yet coaching with me, but we had done this 15 minute consult. And so, she sends this email. It's Nicole from Australia. Hopefully, you remember me. I know you get tons of emails, but I needed to reach out as I'm very lost and confused and angry right now. We had our last phone consult July 2018. My husband and I have been trying for 13 months now. He had a vasectomy reversal in September 2017, which was successful. I have been following you since reading your book Yes, You Can Get Pregnant and have been in the heartbreaking journey of trying to conceive naturally ever since. However, my husband finally got around to doing his 12 month semen test last week. It's been 12 months since the last one. And it isn't good news. It seems only one side of the reversal has been successful despite giving us hope that the semen sample taking three months postop with normal levels. So, in short, the doctor has advised…

Aimee Raupp:

Sorry, my screen's doing something funny. What is going on here?

So, in short, the doctor has advised that our only option at this point is IVF with XE. I'm devastated and certainly was not expecting this news. I feel a little robbed that I put so much effort and time in the last 13 months to totally overhaul my life. I beat myself up month after month when it wasn't happening and it wasn't going to happen anyway. So, we were booked to see a fertility specialist in two weeks time and it looks like we are having to embark on the IVF journey. I'm scared. I'm so upset as this is not what I wanted at all. However, I'm trying to focus on the positive. My body's in a very fertile state. The past 13 months have not been for nothing. We have been preparing for this to ensure IVF actually works for us. I just wish my heart would listen.

I've just started the purify phase, which is phase two for all of you guys reading Egg Quality Diet, in your reboot group. I started a bit later than the rest, but I hope I get some acceptance throughout this process and can feel positive about IVF with XE.

Is there anything you can assist with in regards to preparing for IVF? It doesn't look like we have any other options so I need to start researching this and try to understand how to best prepare myself.

So, that was January 30th, 2000. Wow. And so, then we decide to coach together, right?

Nicole:

Yeah.

Aimee Raupp:

So, I think you do… Back then I was still doing two packs. I think you did two sessions with me and I'll let you tell the story from here. So, how the IVF goes down.

Nicole:

So, I don't remember the exact months that we did the egg retrieval. The first one.

Aimee Raupp:

I can probably find it in my emails. Yeah.

Nicole:

So, we went with a local IVF doctor who had a very aggressive protocol, which I didn't realize at the time. You did and [inaudible 00:06:07]. It was really harsh.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah.

Nicole:

What we had. And I remember going for my ultrasound just before my egg retrieval and I had something like 23 follicles.

Aimee Raupp:

Yep.

Nicole:

It was insane. And I was just like a big blown up balloon at that point. So, he did an egg retrieval and I only got… Was it four eggs the first time?

Aimee Raupp:

Yep. [inaudible 00:06:39].

Nicole:

Yeah. Which was pretty devastating. I expected…

Aimee Raupp:

Four were retrieved.

Nicole:

[inaudible 00:06:45] when I only got four eggs from the retrieval. And then ended up with ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome. And I put on something like five kilos overnight.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah.

Nicole:

After the egg retrieval.

Aimee Raupp:

[inaudible 00:07:01] swollen. Yeah.

Nicole:

It was just ridiculous and really painful.

Nicole:

So, as a result of that, we had to do a freeze all because there was no way we could transfer in that cycle.

Aimee Raupp:

Which I didn't want you… Remember, I just was going through the emails. I did not want you to do a fresh transfer with knowing how many meds he put you on. I remember talking about that. But he was thinking still we're going to go in and do a fresh transfer on you.

Nicole:

Yeah. Well I remember the day of the actual egg retrieval, he actually said just before I went under, we'll have to do a freeze all because of whatever the level is that they took. I can't remember what that [inaudible 00:07:42].

Aimee Raupp:

Your estrogen.

Nicole:

Yeah, yeah. The estrogen was way too high.

Aimee Raupp:

Yep.

Nicole:

So, yeah. Sorry, we have to do a freeze all. So, that was just as I was going under it was like what?

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah.

Nicole:

I don't know. I found him really arrogant. He didn't have a great bedside manner. It was just very matter of fact and not what I was looking for. Not what I needed at that point.

Aimee Raupp:

James [inaudible 00:08:06]. Thank you, buddy. I left my phone downstairs. He just brought it up.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah, not at all. Was not supportive at all.

Nicole:

So, he really pushed us to do testing on all of the… So they all fertilized.

Aimee Raupp:

Right.

Nicole:

All the eggs fertilized.

Aimee Raupp:

All four.

Nicole:

Yeah, all four fertilized. But then he pushed us to do testing. We had one normal.

Aimee Raupp:

Yes, one normal.

Nicole:

And the rest were abnormal and one was… Yeah, no. So, three were abnormal so we only got one egg out of that. One embryo.

Aimee Raupp:

One embryo and that… Yeah. So, we got four retrieved, all four fertilized. We, I think, sent four off for testing. One came back normal.

Nicole:

Yep. So, the following cycle.

Aimee Raupp:

Yep.

Nicole:

We transferred that one. But on transfer day, that embryo did not thaw properly.

Aimee Raupp:

Right.

Nicole:

But they said it had thawed. It was good enough to transfer. So, it wasn't positive. Wasn't a positive experience at all.

Aimee Raupp:

It was crushing, too. It was just devastating [inaudible 00:09:17].

Nicole:

Yeah. It wasn't a good IVF experience. And it was like how do people do this for years and years and years? So, then my husband convinced me to do a second cycle and that was it. I didn't want to do anything more after that.

Aimee Raupp:

I remember.

Nicole:

We investigated doctors a little bit more.

Aimee Raupp:

Right.

Nicole:

And I made the switch to a second doctor who funnily enough in our appointment I found out he actually trained the first doctor I went to.

Aimee Raupp:

I don't remember that. Wow.

Nicole:

Yeah. So, I kind of got it mixed up. I went with the student, not with the professor.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah. Yeah.

Nicole:

So, he had a different approach altogether. He specialized in over 40s. So, he didn't have an aggressive protocol and the whole experience was so much nicer.

Aimee Raupp:

Like night and day.

Nicole:

He was just… Yeah. It's a totally different thing. And yeah. I could have done more cycles with him because it was just an easier process.

Aimee Raupp:

So, that one, it was a gentler, less aggressive approach. You got six and five fertilized.

Nicole:

Yeah.

Aimee Raupp:

But we didn't test.

Nicole:

He didn't want me to test. He wanted to do a double transfer.

Aimee Raupp:

Which means you transferred two.

Nicole:

Yeah. Double transfer, day two. And then as a result we have baby Harry.

Aimee Raupp:

That's right. Baby Harry. And so, you were 40 at that point, correct?

Nicole:

I was older than that.

Aimee Raupp:

Because it was… Harry was born March 2020. And you were…

Nicole:

I was 42.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah.

Nicole:

42.

Aimee Raupp:

How old are you now?

Nicole:

About to turn 45.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah. Oh, okay. So you're 42 when you give birth to Harry. Untested embryos that she collected at 41. So, I think that's all good to know too. 39 into 40, you did make one. You did make one genetically normal, but out of a cycle like that, I think we know so much more now too in the sense, even these last couple years, that too many meds really compromise the quality as well. So, I think that whole environment to even just get one was great, but then…

Nicole:

Yeah.

Aimee Raupp:

The whole thing was crappy. The thaw. All the things. And so, we get pregnant with Harry. You have Harry and so let's… I'm going to just go through and we have more to share with you guys. Of course we do. So, these are all updates and egg retrievals. I'm going through our 136 emails. And so, this was still in the first one. Yeah. Let me just fast forward here because we'll go.

Aimee Raupp:

Okay. So, then I'm looking at emails when we decide we're going to switch doctors and we're starting our next transfer. And then we had to do in castor oil packs. I see that in here. Of course, she's still on the Body Belief, anti-inflammatory diet. I just remember too, you just felt so much better on that diet, right? That was such a big shift for you. Yeah.

Nicole:

Cutting out gluten. I was… Cutting out gluten was definitely a big thing for me and something that I live by still today because it just makes me feel so awful.

Aimee Raupp:

And this is what you wrote to me June 30th, 2019.

I've been quiet but just gearing up for the next round. Been taking all my supplements, exercising five times a week, watching my diet, enjoying nourishing food. Still gluten, soy, and mostly dairy free. I have occasional cheese. I feel really healthy and fit even though I have not lost much weight. Just wants to hang on there and won't budge. However, I'm not stressing about it. I can't do anything more than I'm doing right now. Started acupuncture and I will go once weekly when next round starts in two weeks.

You sent me your thyroid information. TSH was low. I remember I wasn't happy about that. And so, I think we adjusted that.

And then update on round two. Six days into stems. So, you did 150 of [inaudible 00:13:41], one ML of growth hormone. Zero side effects other than a dull headache, which was amazing. A dramatically different approach. And then you got six eggs and then you have two beautiful… You emailed me right after transfer.

I have two beautiful embryos on board. My body is ready and more importantly, I am ready. I am relaxed, chilled, and just going to spend the next two weeks relaxing as much as possible, laughing, having fun, eating nourishing foods with lots of bone broth.

And then I said, enjoy the ride little one. You're so sweet. And then let's see. It worked. This was your email.

Oh my god, Amy. It worked. We are pregnant. We got our beta results back. 13 days from transfer. Levels are good at 150. In early stages. I'm relishing this moment. I'm still in disbelief. It's been two years exactly since we embarked on this trying to conceive journey and have had so many ups and downs.

I wanted to say a big thank you to you. Or maybe I won't read it all because I'm going to cry. But you read Yes, You Can Get Pregnant in 2017. And I implemented everything immediately.

And so, then we went on and you gave birth to Mr. Harry, which also as a side note is my dad's name. So, it always feels really special. And he's Harry James, her son. And my son is James Harrison, which I think is also really special. And so, then we go through that pregnancy.

And you said with each passing week, I allow myself to become more excited. So, we're emailing back and forth and let's see. 11 weeks. And then, let's see.

Okay, we're going through… Let's see. You sent me an anatomy stand picture, a perfectly formed little baby. And then you finally told your older children that night, too. And they were so beautifully excited. So, then we go on to have Harry. I want to find that email that…

Nicole:

So, Harry came… Harry was in a hurry to arrive.

Aimee Raupp:

Yes. You were 27 weeks [inaudible 00:16:09].

Nicole:

Harry came early.

Aimee Raupp:

Right. Yeah, he came early. So, tell us about that.

Nicole:

It was a spontaneous rupture of waters.

Aimee Raupp:

At 35 weeks.

Nicole:

[inaudible 00:16:21] labor.

Aimee Raupp:

Right.

Nicole:

So, he was born early. His lungs didn't have a chance to develop. And he was in NICU for a little while.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah, two or so weeks you had told me.

Nicole:

Two weeks. Yeah. But he's great. You wouldn't even know he is a preemie now. And COVID hit the week of his birth in Australia here. So, that was just totally new experience having a baby in NICU with COVID.

Aimee Raupp:

That was crazy.

Nicole:

Running rampant everywhere. It was just crazy. Crazy times.

Aimee Raupp:

Wow.

Nicole:

And not having any family support was a big thing. My mom didn't meet Harry until he was six weeks old. Crazy.

Aimee Raupp:

So, crazy. It's so crazy. Yeah. Your email May 4th. It's been an interesting time having a baby without having that physical and emotional support. But at least everyone's healthy and safe. I wanted to give you an update. Harry's eight weeks old and doing brilliantly. He's gorgeous and brings us so much joy. And you said COVID is giving my older children a chance to bond and shower him with love even if I have [inaudible 00:17:33] go back to school.

Nicole:

It was a busy time.

Aimee Raupp:

[inaudible 00:17:40] and he is worthy of every single struggle we have been through. So loved and so wanted. And the glue that binds two families together. And then I said, so precious. Just brings tear to my eyes.

And then September 24th, 2020. Yeah. You said, I still can't believe he's here with us. I get a little teary thinking about all that we went through. And then, so Monday, October 18th, 2021, I get an email. A big [inaudible 00:18:15] from Australia. Not a day goes by that I'm not super thankful and ever so grateful for our baby Harry, who is now 19 months old. He brings us all so much laughter and joy and really has glued our family together. We love him so very much. And he wouldn't be here without you. Thank you, Amy. And whilst we won't be trying for another baby, I still…

This is the sentence that gets us all.

And whilst we won't be trying for another baby, I still follow all the principles of Body Belief as this allows me to be the best version of myself and the best mom I can be. So glad I found you and hope to meet you in person one day when we head to New York.

Monday, October 28th. And I said, Oh, how I love him and that smile because she sent a bunch of pictures. What a beautiful email to wake up to. Thank you. Thank you, I said.

And then I forwarded to my team and I said, thank you so much. And then two days later, October 21st, 2021, I get another email and it says, so just two days after sending you that email, I realized my period was about two weeks late. I don't track anymore. So, to just rule out, I did a test and then another one because it's fricking positive. And she sends the positive test. I'm in shock. I have no idea how to tell my husband when he gets home from work. I can't stop crying. And I'm so worried because I haven't been taking my supplements or my prenatals and holy shit, another baby.

And this is really the clincher guys though. We were given less than 1% chance of ever conceiving naturally. And also four years prior, right? At least. Yeah. Four years prior, she was given this chance at 39 and she's now 43. Right?

Nicole:

Yeah. I was just about to turn 44.

Aimee Raupp:

Just about to turn 44.

Aimee Raupp:

We were given a less than 1% chance of ever conceiving naturally. I can clearly remember my OB saying, well if it happened, you would need to call the baby Miracle. What a douchey comment. And I don't know if we have… This is a lot basically, but one thing is certain, there is a little baby growing inside me again. And so, I said, Oh my God. Oh my God. Okay, breathe, talk with your husband, trust. Add in the supplements, the prenatal deliver, the vitamin D. What do you still have at home?

Aimee Raupp:

So, then we went through all that. We went through all that. And then, yeah. It took a little time for it to all sink in. And let's see. Scan showed everything was perfect and we put you back in the new mama group because you had lost access to that because…

AAnd then I get another email. I'm now 13 weeks. This is really happening. We had our NIPT test and everything came back perfect. We are expecting another little boy. To be honest, I thought it was a girl, but it's a boy. So, it's meant to be. Harry will have a little brother to play cars and trucks with and make lots of mess. After experiencing my 13 year old girl this morning… Maybe I should have looked at some of these [inaudible 00:21:21].

It's been a rollercoaster ride, but we're all starting to roll with this. So, this coming week, I finally get to announce our close family and friends and do a gender reveal for our kids who still don't know. I had to send you this photo taken this morning. It's like Harry knows. And it's a picture of her with Harry on her belly and he's holding it. It's so sweet. And it made me cry then and it's going to make me cry now.

And then the next email, June 6th. Welcome baby Sam. He was born June 1st. Five babies, five different labors. That's amazing. Thank you, Amy, for making this possible. I'm 44 and a half years old and know he wouldn't be here if I hadn't learned so much from you and your coaching when trying to conceive Harry. To have two beautiful, healthy boys in my 40s is truly a blessing. I know. I read a lot [inaudible 00:22:11].

Nicole:

There you have it.

Aimee Raupp:

But our love story is via email. So, yeah. Tell us. That was just such a… Right. What the…

Nicole:

And didn't even think it was possible. Didn't even cross my mind that I could be pregnant because we were told it wasn't possible. And you would think after four previous pregnancies I would know when I'm pregnant, right?

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah.

Nicole:

No way. I thought, well, something's going on, but maybe I'm in menopause.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah.

Nicole:

So…

Aimee Raupp:

She has to go breastfeed now.

Nicole:

He's telling me, I think.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah, it's okay. That's okay.

Nicole:

It's fine. But, yes. So, it definitely was possible. By the time we had the scan, it was eight weeks. There's a little baby's beating heart. Yeah, we now have Samuel. It was a fantastic pregnancy.

Aimee Raupp:

At 44. Amazing.

Nicole:

At 44.

Aimee Raupp:

[inaudible 00:23:14].

Nicole:

I had nothing in the pregnancy to complain about, to worry about. Every test was perfect. Every ultrasound was perfect.

Aimee Raupp:

And so [inaudible 00:23:25].

Nicole:

He's perfect.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah, he's perfect. Before you go breastfeed. One thing for the girls that are watching that were… You were once in their shoes of just that such deep longing. Anything, I don't know. Anything you want to share with them?

Nicole:

I think it's just trusting. And you say that all along. I always remember you saying I'm where I'm supposed to be. And it's just trusting that that's all happening and it'll unravel when it's supposed to and then you get surprises along the way.

Aimee Raupp:

Yeah. I love that. Thank you. [inaudible 00:24:02].

Nicole:

Don't give up because… Just trust your body.

Aimee Raupp:

Well, and that's it too. And I think you learned how to best support your body in doing all the work we did together, if you will. Diet and lifestyle wise. And I remember too, after you had Harry where it was just automatic. You were just going back to that way of living because you felt your best. And so,a I also think that's a really big message of just do what makes you feel your best. Right?

Nicole:

Yeah.

Aimee Raupp:

And look at that. An unexpected pregnancy at 44 after you were told a 1% chance. Okay. All right. Go be with your baby.

Nicole:

Okay.

Aimee Raupp:

I love you. I thank you for being here so much.

Nicole:

Thank you.

Aimee Raupp:

One day. One day we will meet and I'll squeeze [inaudible 00:24:48].

Nicole:

We will.

Aimee Raupp:

Okay?

Nicole:

Okay. Yes. Bye.

Aimee Raupp:

Okay, Nicole. Bye.

Aimee Raupp:

Thank you. All right.
