Supplements & Herbs to Boost Fertility Naturally

When you're trying to conceive, proper nutrition and supplementation can play a crucial role in optimizing fertility. Certain vitamins, minerals, and herbal remedies can help improve reproductive health, balance hormones, and enhance egg and sperm quality. These are the same principles I discuss in my book, Yes, You Can Get Pregnant, and guide clients through in my Functional Fertility Coaching Program.  However, before we dive into this super important topic, I want to remind you of something I always say, “You can’t out supplement a poor diet or lifestyle.”  So while supplements play a major role in optimizing your fertility, they are not a replacement for the foundational diet and lifestyle work.

Essential Supplements for Fertility

  • Prenatal Vitamins – A high-quality prenatal vitamin ensures that your body has the necessary nutrients to support a healthy pregnancy. I personally recommend options like Thorne (access my dispensary here for a discount), FullWell, Seeking Health, and This Is Needed (use code AIMEERAUPP for 20% off).
  • Methylfolate– Essential for fetal development, methyl folate (not folic acid) supports egg quality and helps prevent neural tube defects.
  • Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) – Helps improve egg and sperm quality by supporting cellular energy production.
  • Vitamin D – Plays a crucial role in hormone balance and reproductive health.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids – Found in fish oil, omega-3s help reduce inflammation and support overall fertility.
  • Organ Meats- The most nutrient dense powerhouse supplements out there.  I have all of my clients take organ meat blend with liver for optimal fertility and egg quality (and sperm quality too)
  • Choline- Supports egg quality and DNA repair which is critical for egg and embryo quality as well as optimizes mitochondrial function and reduces inflammation.  Choline is also very important in pregnancy to support placental health and fetal brain development.
  • Zinc and Selenium– Vital for thyroid function, hormone production and improving sperm quality.
  • Myo-Inositol – Particularly beneficial for women with PCOS, as it supports insulin sensitivity and ovarian function.
  • Iron – Ensures proper oxygen transport to reproductive organs and supports overall fertility. Only take iron if you are certain you need it, ie iron levels are low as it can be highly inflammatory otherwise
  • Antioxidants– There are so many out there but some of my top favorites are NAD + (in the form of NMN), Ergothionene, Quercetin, Apigenin, TMG and PQQ.

Herbal Remedies for Fertility: I know many practitioners recommend herbs like Maca, Vitex, Ashwagandha and more however as an herbalist I am very cautious with herbs as they are powerful medicinals.  I believe that all herbs should be customized to your specific needs by a licensed herbal practitioner.  For my herbal support on your case, I strongly recommend doing a one on one coaching session with my team or joining our 6-month Functional Fertility Group Coaching program. All the information on working with my team and I can be found HERE.

How to Incorporate Supplements & Herbs Safely

  • Consult with a healthcare professional and/or licensed herbalist before starting any supplement or herbal regimen.
  • Choose high-quality, third-party-tested supplements to ensure purity and potency.
  • Be consistent with your supplementation and allow time for results.
  • Pair supplementation with a balanced diet, adequate hydration, and a healthy lifestyle for best results.
