Eat Omega-3 fatty acids to improve sperm count!
A recent study out of the University of Illinois showed that mice who lacked DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which is an omega-3 fatty acid that is important for optimal health (and cellular health of the testicles) were unable to make sperm and were therefore infertile.
However, when the scientists added DHA supplements to the diet these mice followed, they began making sperm and were able to procreate.
This is very clear-cut science: eating foods rich in DHA like salmon, sardines and cod liver oil improves sperm count. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol and triglycerides and regulate hormone levels.
My recommendation–regardless of your health, get in your share of omega-3 fatty acids daily. And, if you are trying for a baby, both partners should be eating a diet rich in wild salmon, sardines, walnuts and taking a daily dose of cod liver oil.
