Acupuncture and IVF (in vitro fertilization)

A study released last week from researchers at Adelaide University, Australia, reviewed eight clinical trials and 13 other studies comparing the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (which encompasses acupuncture, herbs and lifestyle and dietary recommendations) with western drugs or IVF treatment.

The researchers found a two-fold increase in pregnancy's in a four-month period for women using Traditional Chinese Medicine compared with only using traditional western medicine approaches.

The study’s authors said “Our meta-analysis suggests traditional Chinese herbal medicine to be more effective in the treatment of female infertility – achieving on average a 60 per cent pregnancy rate over four months compared with 30 per cent achieved with standard western drug treatment.”

From my clinical experience with pregnancy and IVF, I can definitely attest to the accuracy of the conclusions these researchers came to.
