This blog post is sponsored by Naked Nutrition, however, all opinions are entirely my own.
As you know, I recommend getting 80g of protein a day for optimal health and fertility. You should be eating every 2-3 hours and having some form of protein each time you eat and all animal products should be organic and grass-fed.
But that doesn’t mean that every time you eat you have to have meat. There are loads of ways to get in protein without grabbing a knife and fork. (My nutrition plans do include a decent amount of red meat, poultry, and fish but we think of meat more as a garnish to a mostly plant-based diet.)
Your snacks could be as simple as a cup of bone broth or soup but maybe you want a smoothie and for that, you’re gonna need some protein powder- and the grass-fed rule still applies here! (And we want to avoid artificial sweeteners and additives too)
This is where Naked Nutrition comes in- they have incredible clean collagen peptides and whey protein powders.
Whey vs. Collagen
While both products above are Aimee-Approved please keep in mind that whey isn’t for everyone. If you don’t process dairy well you should avoid the whey proteins altogether (this includes but is not limited to those of you with dairy allergies, PCOS, Hashimotos- or other thyroid challenges, endometriosis, and autoimmune conditions). If that’s you- just grab collagen instead and flavor your smoothies in other ways.
What is collagen?
Collagen aids in the function of literally almost every single mechanism in your body. It has super essential amino acids like glycine, proline, tyrosine, lysine, and it’s the most abundant protein substance in the body. It helps to form the tissues in your skin and internal organs that hold your entire body together. There are even cellular receptor sites for collagen in your hair, eyes, your teeth. And research shows that collagen is good for arthritis.
Collagen peptides are an odorless, textureless powder that can easily be added to any liquid.
How I Use Collagen and Whey Protein
I personally don’t do well on dairy so I skip the whey protein but Naked Whey is GREAT for Jaymes! It's not always easy hitting all my nutrition guidelines for him. He eats pretty healthy but he's still a kid who wants mac and cheese and ice cream. I'm ALWAYS sneaking veggies and collagen peptides or protein into his meals and snacks. I love that I can turn what would normally be junk food into a super-nutritious treat for him (keep scrolling for a recipe!)
Here are my personal favorite uses for Naked Collagen:
- Add a scoop in your Chinese herb drink (this can be prescribed based on your unique case by a trained and certified herbalist)
- Add a scoop to your coffee in the morning (because coffee should never be consumed on an empty stomach- you want protein and fat in the mix)
- Add a scoop to a cup of tea
- Add a scoop to coconut yogurt
- Use as the protein source in your smoothies
