The Importance of Gut Health for Conception

Your Gut Health Is The Fertility Game-Changer You Didn’t Know You Needed

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I always say: “Fertility is an extension of your health.” And one of the most powerful—yet often overlooked—areas that impacts your reproductive health is your gut.

In my book Body Belief, I go deep into how your gut, immune system, and beliefs are all interconnected. And in The Egg Quality Diet, I guide you through a gut-healing nutrition plan that supports your fertility from the inside out.

How Gut Health Impacts Your Fertility

A healthy gut microbiome does so much more than just support digestion. It’s essential to your reproductive health:

  • Hormone Regulation: Your gut plays a key role in breaking down and clearing out excess estrogen and supporting overall hormone balance.
  • Reduced Inflammation: Chronic inflammation is a major contributor to fertility struggles. A well-functioning gut helps reduce that inflammation naturally.
  • Better Nutrient Absorption: You can eat all the right foods, but if your gut isn’t absorbing those nutrients—especially folate, iron, and vitamin D—your fertility may still suffer. I’ve outlined a comprehensive 100-day plan to nourish your gut and optimize nutrient absorption for egg and sperm quality in my best-selling fertility book, The Egg Quality Diet.
  • Stronger Immune System: Nearly 70% of your immune system resides in your gut. A balanced gut microbiome helps prevent autoimmune issues that can impact fertility.
  • Balanced Blood Sugar: Gut health also affects insulin regulation, which is crucial for conditions like PCOS. I work on this deeply with women inside my Functional Fertility Coaching Program.

My Go-To Fertility Foods for Gut Health

When healing your gut to support your fertility, here are the foods I always recommend:

  • Probiotic-Rich Foods: Think full-fat, grass-fed yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi. These repopulate your gut with beneficial bacteria.
  • Prebiotic Foods: Garlic, onions, asparagus, and green bananas feed those good bugs and keep your microbiome thriving.
  • Fiber-Filled Whole Foods: Vegetables, legumes, and gluten-free whole grains help regulate hormones and keep your digestion smooth.
  • Healthy Fats: Avocados, wild-caught salmon, nuts, seeds, and extra virgin olive oil reduce inflammation and support hormone production.
  • Fermented Foods: Miso, sauerkraut, kefir and kombucha can enhance gut flora diversity—just be mindful of the sugar content and of any histamine reactions.

How to Start Healing Your Gut Today

These are just a few of the strategies I use with my one-on-one clients and inside my Functional Fertility Group Coaching Program:

  • Eat a diverse, real-food diet rich in fiber + antioxidants to promote a balanced microbiome.
  • Ditch processed foods, excess sugar, and inflammatory oils—they wreak havoc on your gut and your hormones.
  • Hydrate deeply + use electrolytes—your gut lining and detox pathways depend on it.
  • Manage stress—chronic stress changes your gut flora and increases cortisol, which negatively impacts fertility.
  • Consider high-quality probiotics if needed (but always consult your practitioner first).

If you’re looking to take your gut healing and fertility journey to the next level, I walk you through it step-by-step in The Egg Quality Diet and offer personalized support in my coaching programs.

Your gut is the gateway to your hormonal and reproductive health. When you heal your gut, you support your fertility—naturally and powerfully. 💛
