How to Improve Egg Quality Naturally

Egg quality is one of the most important factors when it comes to fertility and reproductive success. While age is certainly a factor, it is by NO MEANS the only factor, I should know– I got pregnant naturally in my 40’s following my own advice and have helped countless women of advanced maternal age do the same (and I also wrote a best-selling book on the topic, The Egg Quality Diet) there are natural ways to support and improve your egg health through lifestyle choices, nutrition, and overall wellness. As I always say, your body is incredibly capable of healing and regenerating, especially when given the right support.

Key Factors Affecting Egg Quality

  • Oxidative Stress – Free radicals can cause damage to your eggs, which is why antioxidant support is crucial. This is one reason why I emphasize the power of an antioxidant-rich diet.
  • Hormonal Balance – Maintaining proper levels of estrogen, progesterone, and insulin is key to sustaining healthy eggs. If you’re struggling with hormonal imbalances, I recommend checking out my Fertility & Wellness Coaching for personalized guidance.
  • Blood Circulation – Good circulation ensures that your ovaries receive the oxygen and nutrients they need for optimal function.
  • Mitochondrial Health – Mitochondria are the powerhouse of your cells, and for your eggs, they are essential to energy production. Keeping your mitochondria healthy is a must for supporting egg quality. I dive deeper into mitochondrial health in all of my books, especially The Egg Quality Diet. .
  • Inflammation and Toxins – Chronic inflammation and toxins can hinder egg development. This is why it’s so important to manage inflammation and limit exposure to harmful chemicals.

Natural Ways to Improve Egg Quality

  • Eat an Antioxidant-Rich Diet – Berries, leafy greens, nuts, and seeds are some of my favorite foods for fighting oxidative stress. This is a simple yet powerful way to nourish your eggs. My book, The Egg Quality Diet, encourages deeply nourishing meals over cold and raw foods to help improve egg quality and hormonal balance.
  • Increase Healthy Fats – Omega-3 fatty acids from sources like fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts help support cell membrane integrity, which is vital for egg health.
  • Reduce Sugar and Processed Foods – Regulating insulin and preventing inflammation are two key benefits of cutting back on sugar and processed foods. This is essential for supporting both hormone balance and egg quality.
  • Stay Hydrated – Proper hydration supports cellular health and detoxification. I can’t stress enough how important water is for your fertility journey.
  • Exercise Moderately – A moderate exercise routine helps improve circulation and hormone balance without putting excessive strain on your body. I’ve seen so many women thrive by finding a workout routine that works for their body. I break down all my exercise and fertility tips in this post.
  • Prioritize Sleep – Sleep is where your body repairs itself, including your eggs. Ensuring quality sleep supports hormonal regulation and cellular health.
  • Manage Stress – Stress can be one of the biggest fertility blockers. Meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises are some of my go-to practices to reduce cortisol and support overall fertility.
  • Consider Supplements – CoQ10, vitamin D, and folate are some of the top supplements I recommend for mitochondrial function and egg health. I discuss the best supplements for fertility in my Yes, You Can Get Pregnant.
