Do You Need a Detox or a Cleanse?

Tis the season… NOPE, not that season. It's the season where everyone is making some sort of change in their eating habits. It's the season of detoxing, cleansing, fasting, fad dieting and 30 day challenging. There's got to be a better way! (Spoiler alert: there is.)

Today I'm going to talk about why crash dieting isn't my jam and how you CAN get your eating back on track so you can feel like the most fabulous version of yourself.

Here Is The Full Transcription Of The Video:

Hey everyone. Hello Instagram. Hello Facebook. Happy Thursday. We are here again, as always. Oh, sorry Instagram, doing it to you again. Here we go. Now you can hear me.

As always, I am coming to you live from my home on a Thursday to do my Instagram and my Facebook live. Hello. Hello. Hello. How are you guys? Thank you so much for joining me. We always have new people rolling on and joining in these incredible communities. First off, I want to say welcome to all of you guys. Thank you so much for allowing me into your home. Thank you for following me and welcome to these incredible communities. I have a great community on Instagram. I have a great community on Facebook. A lot of those people overlap. And then to my tried and trues, my community that's been with me for a long time. I love you guys. I couldn't do this without you. You inspire me everyday, so I appreciate that. For those of you that are super new to me, like I said, I do these every week and I come to you with advice on how to best transform and reawaken your health because you deserve to live your healthiest life. You are worthy of everything you desire. I'm here to help guide you on that and support you on that path.

I am Aimee Raupp, as you already know, because you're on my pages watching me. I'm a women's health and wellness expert. I've written several books and I'm really just all about helping you reawaken your health, because you deserve that. Today I wanted to talk to you about this whole notion of cleanses and detoxes. It's … we're January, it's new year, new you. Everybody wants to lose some weight from the holidays, get back on track because they've been drinking too much and eating too many cookies and now they feel guilty, so they're going to abuse themselves, that's right, abuse themselves, by doing a cleanse or a detox. Because you've obviously done lots of wrong and now you need to basically starve yourself to fix everything. That's kind of the notion that cleanses and detoxes give us. You are toxic, you've done something wrong to your body, you've eaten the bad things, you've been bad, bad, bad, bad, and now you need to just drink juice for three days to reset everything.

I've done them. I've done juice cleanses. I've done detoxes. I have. I've been the bad girl. I also had an eating disorder. I've really been the bad girl where food was a vehicle for abuse and I don't want you guys to do that. You don't deserve it. You deserve to approach it from a different perspective. Cleanses and detoxes, I think there's three main things that are wrong with them. They're negative. They give you this impression that, like I said, you're toxic and you need cleaning. And they're untrue because the truth is, your body knows how to detox and cleanse all on its own. Does it all the time. It's really skilled at it. That's actually what it's designed to do. Your body didn't stop detoxing and cleansing because you ate too many cookies or had too many bottles of red wine. No, no, no. It actually is working harder now. That's probably why you don't feel so good. And three, these cleanses and these detoxes, guess what they are? They're just band aids. They are not getting to the root of the problem. They are … and I should also add, they are problem focused. They are not solution focused.

If you guys want solutions, if you guys want radical health changes for 2019, if you want to make lasting changes, it is not about a cleanse or a detox. That might be a really good jumping off point. That might be a really good place to start because it gets the momentum going and you feel good and then you keep the ball rolling. But most cleanses and detoxes are basically starvation diets. Most of them don't have enough protein to sustain you so you don't feel good. And it's a real shock to the system. So I would prefer that every day be a sort of … I won't call it a detox or a cleanse, I really don't like those words. I won't use them in any of my books, if you've ever noticed. In my latest book, Body Belief, I use the term purifying instead of detox or cleanse because that's the goal.

It's about making your body as pure and as clean as possible. Not about punishing yourself because you ate too many cookies and now you just need to drink green juices all day long. That is not the right approach. Green juices aren't bad for you. I'm not saying that at all. Too many, I think too much cold raw food, that's just Chinese medicine perspective, not so great for us. It's more about, oh, I've been bad and I need to now cleanse my system. Your system knows how to cleanse itself. It's got that. What you need to do is support it every day so it can do it most efficiently and most effectively. What you need to do is nourish your body every day so that it can do its job most effectively.

And most importantly, what you really need is a mindset shift. We need to get out of our own way and stop seeing food, or choices, as bad versus good. Think about that. Bad versus good. How often do you say, oh, I was bad? Yeah, I had that bagel this morning. I was bad. I had three cups of coffee. I was bad. I had those Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I was a bad, bad person. I was terrible to my body. I am a bad person for that choice. I am a bad person and now I need to go and starve myself and do this three day juice detox because I was bad. And then I'm going to be good. And then guess what? You know what you're going to do next, then you're going to go back to being bad because you're setting up the stage for … like a sabotage. It becomes this sabotaging cycle.

So rather, I want us to begin to shift our mindset. I want us to no longer see bad versus good versus I want us to look at food as how does this nourish me? How does this support me? How does this help me achieve the goal? What is my end goal? How does this help with the solution? When we start to … when we shift our perspective from, oh, this food is so bad for me, we shift how we eat, we shift how we look at food, we shift how we look at our body, we shift how we talk to ourselves. That's what we need. We need a mindset shift. In order to do a mindset shift, we need to start hearing the conversation we're having with ourselves in the privacy of our own mind. Because your body hears everything your brain says, and the research shows us, the neuroscience research shows us, the scientific research shows us, guess what? The cells in your body respond to what it is you are thinking.

Your body hears everything your brain says. Every single cell in your your body responds. So if you are going around saying, I'm a bad person. I am bad. I am toxic because I ate all these cookies and I drank all this wine and I'm toxic. I'm so toxic. You're going to sustain that toxicity in your body. This isn't a theory. This is actually shown scientifically. Your thoughts create neurotransmitters, neurochemicals in your brain, which actually then tell your body on how to respond. So if you're walking around saying, I am toxic, I am bad, guess what? That's how your cells begin to respond. They begin to stay in this state of stress and in a state of inflammation, and that is how your body will begin to feel and look and react.

So first it's about the mindset shift. Let's look at food now and say, how does this nourish me? If your goal is to lose weight, if your goal is to have better skin, if goal is to have less pain in your body, less joint pain, less headaches, less digestive issues, if those are your goals, then we educate ourselves around those goals. What are the things that I need to be doing to help myself achieve those goals while not starving myself because I'm not bad? We want things to be sustainable. We want lifestyle choices, dietary choices, to be sustainable, to feel good, to taste good, to feel like you can be social, you can still have fun with food. How does that look? If I want to lose weight, how does that look?

Well, I feel like first it has to be … I'm getting a thumbs up from Karma Organic Spa. Thank you so much. And thank you Travel Mama's. You're welcome.

How does that look? What does that mean? I want to lose weight. Okay. Let's think about it. So probably then we just have to eat more wholesome, nutrient dense foods. Might need to move a little bit more. I don't really believe in calorie restriction. I think that's a falsity. I think there's a very big difference in calories. Calories from a bagel with cream cheese is very different than calories from an egg and some bone broth. Let's learn about foods. Let's try to eat foods as close to their natural state as possible. Let's eliminate all the processed packaged foods. Guess what? You'll lose weight. Let's start to look at food as fuel. Understanding that everything you eat impacts every single cell in your body and how it functions. Let's begin to have a better relationship with food. Food can be your friend. Food can be your nourishment and your support system. Let's look at it that way.

And then let's also change the story. That is, I can't seem to lose these 10 pounds. I never can lose these 10 pounds. No matter what I do, they just won't budge. Oh, screw it. I'm just going to continue to have my chocolate and my wine then every night. Screw it. Fuck it, as I call it. Excuse my language, but I call it a case of the F its. That doesn't get us to our longterm goal. If we begin to shift our mindset, I'm going to try something differently. I'm going to approach food as my friend. Food as my co-creator in this process. Food as a way to support and nourish my body. I'm going to look at my meals and I'm going to have gratitude for them. I'm going to appreciate my food and know that as I eat it, it comes in to nourish and support every single cell in my body so that my cells and my body can work together to achieve the optimal health that I am looking for. That's when things begin to shift.

Even more, we're talking about the weight thing. We have to look at not just food. I want to look at other things. What am I carrying around that I don't need to be carrying? What burdens, emotional? What burdens of other people? What burdens am I carrying around that I don't need to be carrying? What am I ready to let go of? What am I afraid of if I lose the weight? Do I think my happiness lies in those 10 pounds? That's not the right mindset. Maybe that tsk-tsk was judgmental, but it's not the right mindset. It is not a lasting approach. The mindset has to be, my life is good now and it can get better. I am worthy of things shifting. I am worthy of this getting better.

Oh PariShea, thank you so much.

It's this mentality shift of, what am I carrying? What am I ready to let go of? What is that shift going to look like? What are my end goals? And how can I use food as a tool to nourish me rather than a punishment? This is a very different approach. These cleanses, these detoxes. A, I hate the word cleanse. I hate the word detox. Like I said, I feel like it's negative. They might set the stage for some positive momentum, which is a good thing, but they are missing one key component, and that is the mindset shift.

If you guys want to kick off your January, your 2019, with a purification of your body and your mind, I got something for you. I have a program that's starting on Sunday, this week. It's called Reboot Your Health and Rewire Your Brain. You can learn about it at aimeeraupp.com/reboot. Instagram, the link is in my bio. Facebook, we'll post it right now. And it is exactly that. It is a 30 day mind body reset. There is a diet to follow. Of course there is. But it's not really a diet. This is a lifestyle shift. There is an approach that we're going to take where we're slowly going to eliminate the foods that don't serve us, and we're slowly going to incorporate more of the foods that do.

At the same time, we're going to shift our mindset. How can I best nourish and support my body. Every day, if you join this program, every single day you get an email from me with a physical and nutritional recommendation and an emotional recommendation. There are mantras. There are meditations. There are tools, really good tools to begin to shift your mindset, your relationship with food, your relationship with your body, your relationship with how you talk to your body. Remember, your cells, every single cell in your body hears everything your brain says. If you are walking around saying, I don't treat my body well, I abuse my body, I'm terrible to my body. Why would my body support me? I'm to X. I'm to … whatever it is, overweight. I'm to abusive. I'm too much of all these bad things, so I should never get what I deserve. Guess what? That all just comes into play. The neuroscience research is there now. It shows us, our cells respond to our thoughts. Our thoughts create neurochemicals in our brain, which impact our cells and our physiology. If you want to really have lasting, radical health changes, you got to shift your mindset.

In this 30 day program, I'm going to teach you everything I write about in this book and in my other books, of course too. But Body Belief is all about learning to love your body more. Learning to renew your thoughts, reconnect with your body, totally transform the way you interact with your body, the way you treat your body, the way you look at yourself in the mirror. I want you to like not just what you see in the mirror, but who you see in the mirror. That is a lifelong journey.

I want us to like ourselves more than we don't. That is the goal. And that is what I'm going to give you in this 30 day program. It's so much more than a diet is so much more than a detox or a cleanse. It is you reconnecting to you so you can begin to treat yourself better at the core level. And then from that place, those dietary changes are freaking easy because you feel good. You feel good about your choices. And because it's no longer about good versus bad, it's about how does this help me get to where I want to get? It's about you staying connected to your end goal. It's about you staying focused. And I'm giving you a strategy to get there.

So, check out the program. The cart closes tomorrow. You are going to get live coaching from me, every week, in this program. You're going to get five live coaching calls from me, in our secret Facebook group. So you've got to join Facebook. You get daily emails, you get menus, you get shopping lists, you get recipes. You get an incredible community of people. You get me doing this program with you. I'm going to do the 30 day program. I can't wait. I developed it. I created it, but I could use it. We could all use a reset. This is the reset and this also sets the stage, like I said, for that radical transformation.

So, wherever you are, if you just have some inflammation in your body or you're dealing with an autoimmune condition, you're dealing with some illness that you just can't seem to kick, no doctor can figure it out. You've been trying to get pregnant and it's not working. You have endometriosis. You have polycystic ovaries. You have Hashimoto's. You have Celiac, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, you name it, this program can help you. It is meant to help your body heal, reduce inflammation on a physical level and on an emotional level. That is the absolute key. That is what most diets out there are missing. They are not approaching the emotional inflammation.

If you want to talk about detoxing, we need to detox our thoughts. We need to detox the conversation we have with ourselves in the privacy of our own mind. We need to be nicer to ourselves. This program is going to help you do that. Plus, it's going to give you the food, and the journals, and the support, and all of the things that you need to be a success at this. So again, check it out, aimeeraupp.com/reboot. Cart closes tomorrow. It's going to be freaking awesome. I cannot wait to do it with you guys. So go and join now and I get to see you on Sunday in our secret Facebook group for our kickoff call. I cannot wait.

Again, if you guys have any questions about the program, my team is here for you. You can comment anywhere in here. You can come over to Instagram, you can DM me. Facebook, you can ask us a question here. Head over to the page, learn more about the program. There's a whole FAQ section at the bottom. If you're trying to get pregnant, this program, you can totally do. It's totally safe. Okay. If you have a diagnosed autoimmune condition, totally safe. I know autoimmunity inside and out and I created this program with those people in mind and so it is very safe for any woman, any man, with an autoimmune condition. Even if you just want to feel better, you can do it.

So, okay, I give you guys lots of love and I thank you for listening to me and I want you to just sit back and really think about that. Why do I think I need a detox? Why do I think I need a cleanse? Is it because I think I'm toxic? Because I'm dirty. And think about that. How does that make you feel? How does that thought make you feel? Do you want freedom from thoughts like that? Do you want to shift that approach in your life? Do you want to stop blaming yourself, beating yourself up, criticizing yourself, judging yourself? That's what my R&R Program, my Reboot and Rewire Program can help you do.

What do I think about intermittent fasting? I think it's very useful. I don't think it's great for a woman if she's trying to conceive or balance her hormones. If she's not trying to conceive and is past her fertile years, I think it's really useful. I do see long term negative impacts on women in their fertile years if they're doing intermittent fasting for too long. How does that sound? I just don't like going more than … really, like 8:00 PM to max 8:00 AM. I don't like that 16 hour fast. It's just not good for a woman's hormones. For men it's okay, it's better. But women, we're just … our hormones change so much and we really need protein first thing in the morning. I like the Keto Diets and what they recommend to eat, but I do not like the length of time between meals if you're … I deal with so many women trying to get pregnant. It does not work for women and fertility.

I'm gonna send you guys off now. Lot's of love. And again, check out the program. Cart closes tomorrow. There's awesome bonuses that you will get. One of them, I believe, is an Aimee Raupp beauty gift certificate, so you're going to get some free Aimee Raupp beauty if you sign up for this program. Yeah, you get so much of me too. 30 days to transform the rest of, potentially, your life, literally. I mean it. How you treat yourself, how you look at yourself, how you talk to yourself. So, join me. I can't wait to see you. Bye guys. Have a wonderful day. See you next week okay.
